St. Nina

St. Nina, Enlightener of Georgia and Equal to the Apostles was born around 280 A.D. in Cappadocia. She was an only child and was related to the Great Martyr George. St. Nina was told that Christ’s tunic had been taken to the country of Georgia. She entreated the Most Holy Theotokos to grant that she would see Georgia converted to Christ and that she might find the Lord’s Tunic. The Virgin Mary appeared to her in a dream placing a cross from sprigs in her hand. This cross is now in the Tiblisi Cathedral. In Georgia, numerous miracles accompanied the preaching of St. Nina. The Emperor, at the insistence of pagans, ordered torture for St. Nina, even though she had healed his wife miraculously. At the moment of this order, the Emperor suddenly fell blind. St. Nina healed his blindness and by the year 324 Christianity had established itself in Georgia. The Chronicles relate that through her prayers, the location of the Lord’s Tunic was revealed to St. Nina and the first Georgian Church was built on this location. St. Nina is commemorated on January 14
